IMPORTANT INFORMATION – Childcare Voucher Scheme from October 2018
The government introduced a Tax-Free Childcare (TFC) scheme in May 2017.
Unlike the Childcare Voucher scheme, it does not rely on your employer setting up a scheme, and is available to self-employed people too. The government contributes 20% of childcare costs, with the maximum help set at £2,000 per year per child (or £4,000 if the child is disabled).
To be eligible for the Tax-free Childcare scheme, you must be working (and if you have a partner they must work too), and you must not be receiving support through Tax Credits or Universal Credit. If you work but your partner is unable to work because they are disabled or caring for a disabled person, you will be able to use the Tax-free Childcare scheme. The Tax-free Childcare scheme will not be available to parents where either a single parent or either member of a couple earns over £100,000. You must have a child under 12 years old or 16 years old if registered as disabled.
Further information is available at: https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/
From October 2018, no new applicants will be allowed to join employer provided Childcare Voucher schemes
If you are already in the existing employer approved Childcare Voucher scheme, this will continue after October 2018 until eligibility ceases on one of the four following grounds:
- You change employer (unless via a TUPE transfer)
- Your child reaches the age limit of the scheme
- You do not receive childcare vouchers within a 12 month period
- You opt-out of the scheme, you cannot re-join after leaving the scheme
